Rush Memorial Hospital Visitor Policy

3.1)  Mask Policy

Masks must be worn inside all Rush Memorial Hospital facilities. RMH will provide a medical-grade mask upon your arrival, at no cost to you if you do not have a mask.

3.2)  Main Hospital Visitor Policy

Up to two visitors per patient – including children, if accompanied by an adult – to visit together, in all Rush Memorial facilities. All visitors must follow all COVID-19 protocols while on-site. One adult may stay overnight for patients 18 and older. For pediatric patients, two adult visitors may stay overnight. Med Surg visiting hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. All visitors age 2+ must follow guidelines for masks and social distancing.

3.2.1) Main Hospital visitor guidelines – patients without COVID-19

For adult patients without COVID-19, up to two may visit at the same time. Visitation length of stay is not restricted during normal visiting hours. Adult patients may have one visitor stay overnight. Pediatric patients may have two overnight visitors.

  • Visitors must screen negative for COVID-19 at the facility’s entrance and follow all COVID-19 protocols while on site.
  • Visitors (age 2+) must wear a hospital-provided mask at all times, including in the patient’s room.
    • Face masks may be removed while eating or Please put your face mask back on as soon as you are done.
  • Visitors will be asked to wash hands often or use hand sanitizer, including upon entry and exit from the patient’s room.
  • Practice physical distancing, including in the patient’s room.
  • Visitors should remain in the patient’s room, except to get food inside the hospital and then return to the room, or to exit for the day.
  • Med Surg visiting hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Exceptions may be made in consultation with the provider and nursing staff for situations involving end-of-life care or other unforeseen circumstances and when the benefits of more inclusive visitation outweigh the risk at the nurse’s discretion.

3.2.2) Main Hospital visitor guidelines – patients with COVID-19 or suspected Covid-19

Patients with COVID-19* may have up to two adult visitors (18 and older) at a time under the following guidelines:

  • Visitors must screen negative for COVID-19 at the facility’s entrance and follow all COVID-19 protocols while on site.
  • Once checked in, a Rush Memorial staff member will assist you in putting on all required PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Once in the patient’s room, visitors are not allowed in-and-out privileges; drinking, eating and using the restroom in the patient’s room are not allowed.
  • Before leaving the patient’s room, visitors should call a nurse or hospital staff member to help with removing their PPE safely.

3.3) Outpatient Building Visitor Policy

RMH is taking careful steps to protect patients and our outpatient team. Patients should plan to arrive 15minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.

  • Patients, adult and pediatric, may bring up to two companions/parents/guardians to an appointment.
  • Visitors must screen negative for COVID-19 at the facility’s entrance and follow all COVID-19 protocols while on-site, including wearing a mask at all times if over the age of 2.
  • If the adult companion/parent/guardian of a minor child does not pass the screening, another companion can be screened or the appointment will be rescheduled.
