Temporary Option Eases Wait for Knee Replacement
Knee replacement surgery is a wonderful option for many people, especially those who are in extreme pain and unable to walk without great difficulty. But what happens if you need a knee replacement but aren’t quite ready to get one? You may need to lose weight. You may not be able to take enough time off work. You may be worried about the cost. For whatever reason, if you need a knee replacement and aren’t ready for it, your major concern is probably how to manage the pain and get around in the meantime.
RMH Orthopedics has a treatment that may offer help in this situation. It’s called “viscosupplementation”.
Viscosupplementation involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the sack in the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid is a building block of the fluid that normally cushions the knee joint. By adding more fluid to the joint, this simple procedure temporarily restores some of the cushioning in the knee. This helps the knee move more easily and with less pain.
Viscosupplementation isn’t a permanent “fix” for bad knee, and it can’t be used in all cases. For many patients, however, it’s a great temporary option while waiting for knee replacement surgery.
