Sometimes a patient needs knee replacement surgery but isn’t quite ready for it. In the meantime, something needs to be done about the pain.
RMH Orthopedics has a treatment that may offer help in this situation. It’s called “viscosupplementation”.
Viscosupplementation involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the sack in the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid is a building block of the fluid that cushions the joint in a healthy knee. By adding more fluid to the joint, viscosupplementation can help the knee move more easily and with less pain.
Viscosupplementation isn’t a permanent “fix” for osteoarthritis, and it can’t be used in all cases, but it relieves pain for many patients while they wait for knee replacement surgery.
