Looking for the best of the best in children’s gifts? If you want to know what the experts have chosen, check out the following lists:  

1) The Parents Choice Foundation gives annual awards in games, puzzles, toys, books, video games and movies. Awards are designated by age and can be sorted by price, so there’s something for everyone. Awards from past years can be found in the archives. Parents’ Choice Awards – Parents’ Choice (parentschoice.org) 

2) “Mensa Select” is a designation awarded to five board games each year by Mensa, the “oldest largest and oldest high IQ society in the world” . These awards were first given in 1990. The list of past winners can be found at List of Mensa Select recipients – Wikipedia . Many of these games are still in print. Most out-of-print games can still be purchased from Ebay and other online sellers.  

3) The Randolph Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the “most distinguished American picture book for children”. This award was established in 1938 and is given by the Association for Library Service to Children. All awarded books are listed at Caldecott Medal – Wikipedia .  

4) The John Newberry Medal is awarded annually to “the most distinguished contributions to American literature for children”. The award was established in 1922 by the Association for Library Service to Children. All awarded books are listed at Newbery Medal – Wikipedia .
