General Orthopedics

Individual evaluation and treatment programs utilize exercise, manual skills, and modality interventions where appropriate, to treat orthopedic conditions. The Rush Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation team is equipped to handle all orthopedic conditions including conservative management of pain or tendonitis, post-surgical care and post-fracture care. Areas of the body most commonly treated include the shoulder for rotator cuff pain or repairs and the knee following injury or surgery.

Neurological Disorders

A variety of neurological disorders such as CVA’s, MS, SCI, and TBI are treated at the Rush Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Department. Thorough evaluations and treatment plans provide patients with the tools they need to maximize their skills and independence.

Spine

The Rush Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Department utilizes a variety of proven techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of multiple spine dysfunctions. Rush Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation offers experience in treating all types of diagnoses including facet syndrome, disc degeneration and postural dysfunctions. Whether the injury or illness is surgical or non-surgical, we can help you get your patients back to their maximum independence and functionality.

Foot, Ankle, & Orthotic Therapy

Our program provides a mechanical assessment of the lower kinetic chain, including alignment, function, proprioception, strength, range of motion and flexibility. We also evaluate the negative foot functions on the knee as well as hip and lumbropelvic structures. Our treatments encompass open and closed kinetic chain exercises, manual skills including mobilizations and modalities where appropriate.

Hand Therapy

Our Occupational therapists will perform evaluations of the hand and upper extremity to provide functional training in joint protection, motor coordination and range of motion. Modalities and other manual techniques are also utilized where appropriate. Custom hand splinting is provided for joint protection or post-surgical management.

Speech, Language, and Swallowing Disorders

Rush Memorial Hospital offers a comprehensive program of evaluation and treatment for a variety of speech, language and swallowing disorders. Our experienced licensed and certified speech-language pathologists are uniquely qualified to treat a variety of patients, from pediatric to geriatric and including those with traumatic brain injuries, voice or swallowing disorders and cognitive disorders.

Pediatric Therapy

Our staff of experienced therapists work together to provide an integrated, multidisciplinary treatment approach for children with individually assessed and customized intervention plans to address the patient’s particular needs. Therapeutic services are available for children with diagnoses of Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome, intellectual disability, Scoliosis, Spina Bifida, and other neurological, orthopedic and developmental delays.

Vestibular Program

The therapists at Rush Memorial Hospital are trained and experienced in treating dizziness and vertigo. Treatment techniques include particle repositioning maneuvers and/or habituating the nervous system to the dizziness through exercises. Mobilization of the cervical spine has been found to be beneficial for the treatment of vestibular disorders. Therapists at Rush Memorial Hospital have a strong knowledge base to work from to find the treatment technique that is best for a particular patient and get positive results.

Referral Procedure

Timely and frequent communication and documentation is delivered back to the physician to enable efficient case coordination and to hasten functional independence for patients.
