Routine Vaccinations Could Help Protect Children From Potential Covid-19 Complications

While the world struggles to create and produce a vaccine for Covid-19, there are many other potentially devastating diseases that are already preventable with vaccines. These include measles, diphtheria, polio and tetanus, to name a few. While each of these diseases is serious in itself, no one knows what would happen to children who contracted Covid-19 while already sick with one of these preventable conditions. Adults who contract Covid-19 while they are already sick with another viral condition are at increased risk for negative outcomes. This could be the case for children as well.

As social distancing decreases and vaccination rates decline, as they have been doing since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is becoming more likely that some children are going to contract both Covid-19 and a vaccine-preventable condition such as the measles. The solution is to act now to protect our children with routine vaccinations
