Now that summer vacations are over, many of us are looking for some fun weekend things to do with the family, especially things that aren’t too far from Rush County. Here are a few suggestions:
Looking for something outside the box? Check out the underground “catacombs” under City Market in downtown Indy. These vaulted brick hallways are all that remain of Tomlinson Hall, which burned to the ground in the winter of 1958. Indiana Landmarks will be offering tours on Sept 18 and Oct 2, 16 and 30. For more information, visit City Market Catacombs Tour – Indiana Landmarks .
Looking for something to do on a rainy fall Friday? The kidcommons Children’s Museum in Columbus, Indiana has free family fun time every first Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. For more information visit kidscommons » Calendar of Activities or call 812.378.3046.
If you’re hungry before or after your museum visit, be sure to check out Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum. Pull up a stool to order ice cream at the soda fountain. Afterwards, check out the soda fountain museum and see brass and marble soda and syrup dispensers from the glory days of the American ice cream parlor. For more information, visit Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor .
Lark Ranch in Greenfield has lots of interesting outdoor fun for the kids. In addition to the pumpkin patch, corn maze and Barrel Train, there are active rides like the Air Extreme, Orbitron and Jumping Pillow. For more information, visit Lark Ranch .
