Together We Can Event Raises about $20,000
July 2010
Dan Slaven, executive director of the Rush Memorial Foundation, said in its inaugural year the Together We Can event was a success and planning is already underway for next year. “It’s a first-year event and it went pretty well. I would say we had about 100 people come out,” Slaven said. This event was a fundraiser for the Brian’s Cause Fund, an account that puts money toward fighting cancer here and only here in Rush County. It took place last Saturday. The event consisted of ceremonies and a memorial balloon release, a 2-mile walk, a health screening and a silent auction. Slaven estimated that they raised between $18,000 and $20,000. “The silent auction went really well, and also the health fair,” Slaven said. “We did 25 screenings because it was a free health fair, which we normally do about two of three.” As planning for next year progresses, Slaven said that they are considering changing the date of the event. “We’re going to look into moving it to October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Slaven said. “And [the weather’s] also cooler for people to walk the two miles.” To donate to the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation or to fill out an application for assistance from the Brian’s Cause Fund, log onto to rushmemorial.com or contact Slaven at 765-932-7568.

Shadowing at Rush Memorial Hospital
Students from Rushville High School often find their way to Rush Memorial Hospital through Whitewater Technical Career Center. Juniors and seniors, interested in a career in healthcare, shadow or observe in various departments at the hospital. Through their time at Rush Memorial Hospital, they are able to ask questions, see equipment and observe the staff completing actual everyday duties. Shadowing at RMH often helps the students determine their future career path.
